In Christianity, Jesus is generally seen by most dominations as being the divine representative of God on earth, who is both fully human and fully divine. However, there are contradictions on whether he was simply human with wisdom and a prophetic message or if he was the divine Son of God who served humanity with the ultimate sacrifice for salvation. Most denominations like Catholics and Protestants believe that Jesus Christ is a divine man, and Son of God who was sent by the Father as a means of salvation for mankind. This belief is commonly backed by famous verses in the Bible or phrases in the Nicene Creed such as "I and the Father are one" - John. This verse in the Bible reinforces the idea of unity between Jesus the Son and God the Father which allows Christians to conclude that Jesus was not an ordinary man. Or from the Nicene Creed which describes Jesus as "God from God… born of the Father before all ages" which clearly rejects any idea of him simply being a man as he was born from a divine deity before mankind was created. Thus, Jesus' divinity leads Christians to view him as a reliable source of authority because if he was divine and born from the essence of the Father outside time, then he should be regarded as high authority. Christians who believe in his divinity follow his moral teachings and reflect on his actions as they are sure to grant them salvation. Other denominations however such as Utinarianists and Liberalists do not believe in Jesus’ authority as they do not believe in the Bible’s entire divinity. Quotes such as “Father forgive us” creates a contradiction, since if Jesus is God then why would he be asking ‘himself’ for forgiveness for his peopl or that if Jesus was baptised, which is an action done to be wiped from the original sin, then Jesus isnt infallible and is simply a human. This leads Christians to disregard Jesus as the absolute reliable authoritative figure since he was a fallible man with just a prophetic message and so they may simply reflect on his moral teachings metaphorically.
