One reason as to why the German economy recovered in the years 1924-29 was because of the Dawes Plan. Stresemann managed to gain the support of prominent U.S banker, Charles Dawes, to institutionalize the plan. Dawes ordered the national currency to be removed, which immediately put an end to high prices. He introduced a temporary new currency known as the 'Rentenmark' which reset the prices of goods. Germany was also given more time to pay for their wartime reparations, along with U.S banks agreeing to loan $800 million. The Dawes Plan would later pave the way for the Young Plan in 1929 in which reparation payments were lowered even further. Another reason as to why the German economy managed to recover was because of Stresemann's handling of the Ruhr Crisis. With a new stable currency and reduced reparation payments put forth by the Dawes Plan, Stresemann ordered an end to the strike in the Ruhr Valley. France and Belgium pulled out their troops out of the Ruhr as Germany was finally beginning to cooperate. As a result of the ending of the crisis, German industry was able to start up again, helping the German economy to recover. A final reason as to why the German economy recovered was thanks to the work of Gustav Stresemann. With the success of the Dawes Plan, the ending of hyperinflation meant that people could buy goods again, workers could be paid and families no longer risked starvation. Stresemann's image was bolstered significantly, and as a result of the loans and ending hyperinflation, Stresemann managed to increase German industrial rates by up to 40% in 1929.
